From Cracked Shingles to Poor Attic Ventilation
It could be as simple as replacing a few shingles. Sometimes if the contractor did not install it properly, you may just have a loose or cracked shingle that needs to be replaced. Sometimes the valleys, where two planes of a the roof meet are no longer sealed. This usually happens in sloped roofs where the seal may be damaged due to old age, ice dams, or other elements. Solving this problem usually requires a new leak barrier along the valley and shingling over-top. Another issue could be that your vent booting is cracked or the mortar along the joints of the chimney needs repairing. The roof vents are the small pipes sticking out of the roof, we’ll notice dark spots and mustiness if that is the problem. The mortar on the chimney is a thick mixture of water, sand, and cement eroding in harsh conditions. Usually replacing the mortar will fix the problem.
