Flat Roofing Using EPDM Rubber Roof Installation
Built-up roofing (BUR) is the old way of applying roofing felt or tar paper and asphalt-based roofing tar. We don’t recommend this method, but do implement this style if specifically requested. These are installed usually in multiple layers to increase the durability. A top layer of gravel is commonly spread to prevent the increasing of heat. We recommend using EPDM roofing. It is a synthetic rubber called ethylene proplyene diene monomer which has the look and feel of your everyday rubber. It is exceptionally strong and resilient roofing system that can last 30 years or longer when installed professionally.
Some key benefits to EPDM:
- Resists thermal shock and precipitation damage including heavy hail
- Flexible and will not crack or shatter in freezing cold temperatures
- Does not deteriorate
- Allows for structural movement without creating stress on the membrane
- Able to withstand UV damage making it more superior to it’s counterpart materials
- Can last 30 years or longer with proper installation
- Affordable solution for low-slope installations
- The most preferred solution throughout North America
